Where can I get seeds and/or plants?

You can get several types of seeds like buckwheat, sinapis, flax, watercress, chia etc. at your local health food store. Plants, grass seeds, and other types of seeds can be found at your local plant nursery. Although both seeds and plants can also be purchased online. We also plan to provide a list of our recommendations for backers after the campaign.

What kinds of plants can it grow?

The terrplanter is suitable for thousands of different types of plants. Many of the houseplants that come in a pot will grow well on a terrplanter. The plants that grow naturally in the jungle, rainforest, or near a water source are best suited for the terraplanter. Some examples include types of: orchids, ferns, begonias, hoyas, mosses, carnivorous plants, dischidia and more. Each example given is a family which consists of thousands of types of species. Each terraplanter will come with a guide that will include more information about matching plant types and care instructions.

Is it possible to grow herbs?

Most herbs are plants that grow large and need deep roots in the ground. Therefore, although some herbs can grow on the terrplanter they are not the ideal solution for them. Edible seeds of plants which are commonly used for sprouting (ie, chia, buckwheat, sinapis, flax, watercress) can sprout and grow on the terrplanter for several weeks - at which point some may make a great addition to your salad :)

How does the plant get its nutrients or fertilizer?

The appropriate nutrients or fertilizer can be dissolved in water and sprayed directly onto the plant roots which are visible on the exterior surface of the terraplanter. Each terraplanter will come with a guide that will include more information and care instructions.

Can I use normal tap water?

In most cases, yes. However, if there is an issue with the quality of the water in your area or if the water contains a lot of limestone (calcium) then we suggest filtering the water before using it with the terraplanter. Besides filtering the water, there are other simple solutions that we have tested to get suitable water, including; collecting rainwater or A/C water or simply using distilled water.

How often do you need to add water?

The terraplanter acts as a water bank for the plant - slowly releasing water from the interior cavity through the walls to the plant roots on the exterior surface. The rate of perspiration and evaporation is dependent on the temperature and humidity levels in the room. Our estimated range is around 5-15 days. To see when you need to add water, simply lift the lid and peek into the terraplanter. Each terraplanter will come with a guide that will include more information and care instructions.

Can it be used to grow indoors and outdoors?

This really depends on the type of plant. We recommend growing on your terraplanter indoors and in a well-lit area. Despite our recommendation for indoor growing, we have also successfully grown on the terrplanter outdoors. When growing outdoors you should take care to try and avoid strong winds and direct sunlight for long durations.

How long can a plant live for on the terraplanter?

This depends on the type of plant. Edible seeds of plants which are commonly used for sprouting (ie, chia, buckwheat, sinapis, flax, watercress) can sprout and grow on the terrplanter for several weeks - at which point some will make a great addition to your salad :) Grass, for example, will sprout and last for months. On the other hand, some other plants like ferns, begonia, hoyas, etc… can grow for years! Each terraplanter will come with a guide that will include more information and care instructions.

What is the material?

The material is ceramic. Ceramic is made from a composition of different types of clays and minerals. We studied the material deeply, scanning our material in labs in order to develop the material with optimal balance of porosity and hygroscopic tendencies to fit the widest range of plant types.

Last updated: May 06, 2020 06:19

Will the material last?

Ceramic material is a 100% natural and inorganic material which doesn’t decompose. It can last for many years. By the way, our early prototypes from 3+ years back are still as good as new.

Does it come with seeds or plants?

The terraplanter does not come with seeds or plants mainly because there are too many types of growing options of plants and seeds to choose from. It’s seems endless and we would like to leave the choice to you. However, the terraplanter will come with a guide that will include more information, our recommendations, and care instructions.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
